Karen Curry has been passionate about the visual world her entire life. She was born into a family of artists and from a young age remembers being aware of texture, light, design, colour and antiquity. To this day this is how she perceives the world.

She received a B.A. Fine Art from the University of Western Ontario, a B.Ed Fine Art from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Education from the University of British Columbia. Following her formal studies she undertook a number of years of learning through travel - starting with sailing in a small boat across the South Pacific with her husband and arriving in New Zealand. There she worked as an art teacher in a secondary school with a largely Maori population.

Arriving back in Canada three years later she taught art in the secondary school system and went on to become a district consultant. Again the sailing world called and she and her husband and two teenage boys headed off for a year of sailing from Canada to Mexico to Hawaii and back.

Karen has remained in demand as a practicing artist and art educator in Vancouver and in Palm Desert California. She also for the past three years taken a group of artists to Vence, France and to present a week long seminar ‘Through Matisse’s Window’ at Villa Le Reve - the former home and studio of Henri Matisse. She continues to travel widely and maintains studios in Palm Desert and in Vancouver where she pursues her full time painting, exhibiting and teaching career.
